Return to Homepage                                                                Christmas 2001

As we approach the end of 2001, the Twinning Committee look forward to a bumper 2002 which will include our Millau friends visiting Bridlington in April 2002. This will coincide with the 10th anniversary of twinning in Bridlington which took place on 12th April 1992 and we are planning celebrations to mark the occasion. We are expecting a great response from Millau and we hope for about 70 visitors. This will mean that we’ll need all the help we can get for accommodation. The dates are from 6th to 13th April, but they will actually be leaving Bridlington on the 12th. More details to follow. More information from Chris 851404.

THE FINAL COMMENT

For those of us fortunate to be in Millau in October, what a week of celebration and fun!! As always we were treated to the very best of hospitality and friendship from all the hosting families and their friends and many of us were able to renew old friendships. For those who had visited for the first time, it was so nice to receive all your positive comments about your stay. I hope that you will all come and join us again on our next visit in 2003 (we’re looking forward to it already!). On a personal level, thanks to all those who sent notes, cards and letters or even called expressing your thanks for the organisation of the trip, it really makes a difference and they were all really appreciated.

Beaujolais Night proved once again to be a hugely popular event with members, with a waiting and reserve list in operation once again. A great menu from the Forge was complimented by a sparkling Wine taste with wines ranging from 55p a bottle to £3.50. Yes, of course we bought them whilst we were in Millau!!

Saying AU REVOIR to the French Franc. January 2002 sees the introduction of the EURO to the Euro zone and many of our European neighbours move over to the new currency. If you have a stash of Francs (or other European currency) you’ve got until February to get to France and get rid of it!! What a great excuse for a day trip.

Does anyone have a contact with anyone in Bridlington who could find a placement for a young Millau woman for 6 weeks (or even for 3 or 4) during June, July, August or September? Melinda is a student at University and has to do a work placement in the UK as part of her course. She speaks English and would really like to come to Bridlington or area, as she came here as a pupil on an exchange some years ago and really liked the place. Although she is looking for an Industrial Placement, she realises that this might be difficult in this area, so would be happy to work in the service sector too. Could you please have a think, contacts are never easy to find, but our twinning plays a valuable part in helping these young people to advance their linguistic and technical skills whilst with us. Please give Chris a call if you can help. I have her CV and more details.

We will be renewing many of our favourite events over this year as well as planning for the visit from Millau. In your next Newsletter following renewal of your membership for 2002, you will receive a calendar of events which will include for 2002 our ever popular Bowling and Pancake evening; a Hosting family evening; Greyhound Racing; Treasure Hunt; Quiz Night and Beaujolais Night.
