BRIDLINGTON-MILLAU NEWS
Summer 2002
Although it has been a while
since our last newsletter, we were obviously delighted with the fantastic
reception and generosity that our members offered to our friends from Millau
during their stay in Bridlington in April. The week was punctuated with the
marvellous sounds of Echo des Avens and their friends providing a mixture of
lively, entertaining music mixed with good fun and plenty of humour. The
weather could not have been better for the whole week and the activities were
all well received. There are just too many highlights to mention, but from a
personal point of view, the Barn Dance in the splendid Emmanuel Church Hall
would take a lot of beating alongside the brilliant evening at the Bell Hotel
in Driffield. We have had many letters and E Mails of thanks from Millau and
Id like to pass on all the thanks from these added to my own thanks to all the
host families who really made the stay such a special one for all our French
guests. UN GRAND MERCI.
I am in the process of updating
the Website: www.bridtwinning.supanet.co.uk
with the visit and if you have any photos that you feel really capture the
spirit of the week, then please send them to Chris either via E Mail (as JPEG)
or give Chris a ring so that they can be included.
A reminder to members that you
can get your Newsletters via E Mail. If you have an E Mail address, then send a
short message to Chris chrismyers@tinyworld.co.uk
and I will send you all future Newsletters electronically.
As always with the Summer
approaching, we have a number of events which will hopefully bring you out of
doors and join us in the fun. More details in the Final Comment.

THE
FINAL COMMENT
With
Summer approaching fast, we are planning two events that always prove to be
popular. The first is a night of GREYHOUND RACING at Craven Park in Hull. You
dont need to be a gambling sort or even an expert in form. You can enjoy the
evening from the comfort of the restaurant overlooking the track, have a meal
and if you wish, you can have a few bets without even leaving the restaurant.
This event will take place on Saturday 22nd June. All World Cup
games will have been played earlier on in the day!! Well be taking a coach
along too, so you can even have a drink or two. What is the cost?? Basic price
for entry to Craven park and seat in the restaurant (where you must eat) is
£11. This includes entry, a race card, carvery meal and dessert, a glass of
wine and a £1 bet to start you off. If you want to experience the track without
the meal and all other extras then the cost will be £4.50 for your entry race
card. If you would like to join us on the coach, then that will be £5 extra per
person. Coach will pick up from Hilderthorpe Road Coach park at 6.00pm. Please
call Chris or Barbara to confirm your place straight away, as we have to book
the seats in the restaurant.
What
would the Summer be without a Treasure Hunt? Not too taxing, but giving you
enough to think about, our Treasure Hunt this year is on Monday 15th
July, ending up with a bar meal in
? Cost will be £5 per car and
starting point is the pull in by Wilkinsons Scrap Metal off the Scarborough
Road roundabout at 6pm. Once again, please ring Barbara to register your car.
If you cant fill a car, but would still like to join us, then well be able to
accommodate you in another vehicle.
Just
a brief point of forward planning
we are considering our options for our 2003
visit to Millau and our favoured time for this trip will probably be the last
week of May, during the school holidays. Although we still need to confirm this
with Millau. If youd like to discuss dates, call Chris, but well confirm this
after the Summer.
